Overview

Books, Talks and Tours is a small business ran by Jean Shaftoe. She primarily leads tour groups around various locations throughout Lincolnshire to educate them on key local historical figures from the Georgian Victorian times and the influence they’ve had on the area. In addition to this, Jean also sells multiple items including cards, notelets and books.

In order to attract more customers and expand her reach, Jean approached BaseOne Digital to help get her business online. The website now allows Jean to receive booking requests from all around the UK for her historical talks, and also now has her own side income earner through the online store.

Challenge

Due to the wide range of tours and available products the small business offers, it was important that extra attention was given to the layout of each page in order to prevent confusion to the user when navigating the site. What’s more, Jean required the website to have an online store where users would browse multiple items and then safely make a purchase. This, therefore required an extra level of technical design to ensure that payments were securely made.

Solution

The various talks and tours were split out into separate pages to help deliver the content to the reader in an easily digestible way. Additionally, a user-friendly design was created by making use of the ‘space’ on the web pages which gave each element room to breathe and prevents the site from feeling cluttered. In regards to the online store, users can easily view a range of cards and before making a purchase using a secure gateway.

The site’s colour scheme of dark blue, white and gold gives it a professional and prestigious feel, which was one of the initial objectives given by the client. These colours were purposefully used to break up the page into different sections which indicates to the user when one part ends and another begins. This, in combination with the use of high quality images of the tour locations throughout the site give the user a taste of what they can expect to experience from visiting the area. Jean is extremely pleased with the site and I continue to be her go-to source for all digital marketing requirements.

Alex has created a fantastic site promoting my services (talks and guided tours) and merchandise which can be bought online. It is easy to operate and it looks very very attractive. My understanding of computers is limited so I also appreciated his patience and guidance.
